If you've had an Epson Projector issue and it's time to replace it with a new one, this article is for you. We'll walk through how to physically rehang and realign a projector!
What you'll need
Gather SNs
Take a pic of the old and new SNs and send them to your AVL Support person.
Remove the back panel
Remove the two silver screws and remove the back plate in the back of the projector.
Unplug all cables
Make sure there aren't any zip ties holding the cables to the projector.
Loosen the 4 mounting screws
No need to take them all the way off, just loosen them. This is what holds the projector onto the mount so keep ahold of it while loosening.
Take cables out of the center mounting bracket
Sometimes cables are ran through the center of the mount. Make sure and remove them before fully descending with the projector.
Put the projector on the stage
Take the projector out of the lift to swap the mounts.
Remove the safety screws
The arms of the mount have safety screws. Remove the screws using the T25 bit or phillips bit.
Release the mounting arms
Keep track of which side is facing the front of the projector on the mount. Squeeze the tabs on each arm and push in. Keep the mount as evenly level as possible to get all the arms to release. This may not be an easy task. Continue to work to level the arms while pushing in on them.
Remove the 4 mounting screws
Remove the silver mounting screws.
Remove the lens
With the projector sitting upright, remove the lens cover by sliding it out.
Flip the release lever to release the lens.
Slide the lens out.
Swap lenses
Remove the lens on the new projector and put the old lens on the new projector. Keep the lens at the campus in a safe place until your AVL Support person sends a shipping label to ship it back to OKC.
Lock the lens in place on the new projector
Line the lens connections up with the connections on the projector. Insert the lens into the hole and flip the lever. Do not force the lens.
Slide the lens cover back onto the projector. The sliding point starts about 75% of the way back, not from the front.
Remount the 4 mounting screws onto the new projector
Unscrew the rotating piece to where it sits at the top of the mount.
Remount the mounting arms onto the new projector
Face the mount in the correct orientation (whatever was toward the front on the old projector, keep toward the front). Set all of the arms down on the silver screws until it sits evenly. Push in on the tabs and pull out on the arms.
Insert the safety screws
Remount the projector using the mounting screws
These should be hand tight, never with pliars.
Re-attach the cables
Attach the old back plate onto the new projector
Line up the screws and hand tighten them.
Physically line up the projector
Line up the projector left and right as close to centered as possible. You'll need to physically turn it in order to do this.
If the projector isn't level, slightly loosen the adjustment screw on the front and back. Then adjust the mount up and down. Once level, tighten the screw again. It's important to note that only one side of the mount is adjustable.
Recalibrate the lens
Using the remote, go to the menu settings. Scroll down to extended, select operation and lens calibration. Select yes.
Put up a test pattern
Open Pro Presenter. Select view, test patterns and select the color bars. Select show.
Put Pro Presenter onto the screen. Select the correct projector layer and select Pro Pre on the program layer of the switcher.
Select the SDI source
On the remote, select the button that says SDI.
Refocus the lens
Select focus on the remote and push the arrows left or right to focus it.
Adjust the zoom
Select zoom on the remote and zoom out as much as you can to get the image to fill the entire screen. Overlap the sides if necessary.
Adjust the lens position
Using the remote, select lens shift. Shift the lens left/right or up/down to center the image. Readjust the zoom if necessary.
Call an AVL Support person
If you need further assistance adjusting the image, call an AVL Support person.
