Create a new household

Updated on

This article outlines how to:

  • Enter a new household.
  • Add family members and visitors to a household.
1. Search thoroughly before entering a new household.

We have a helpful article that outlines How to search for a person or household.

When using Name, it's quickest to simply enter the first few letters of the first and last name. The exception is common names like Jones, Smith, Thomas - enter the entire name.

You can click the Name dropdown arrow to use additional search options:

  • Key Tag number (select Email)
  • Phone number
  • Email address
2. Add a new family.

When the search results are continuously empty, a family or household will need to be added. Please search by more than one criteria before adding a new family (phone number, email, etc).

  • Click the People icon in the left side menu.
  • Select New Family.

Enter the new household.

  1. Begin with the head of household, then spouse and children. (Please use Adult as the Role for the parents in the household).
  2. Enter Connection Status as "Attendee".
  3. Enter their Gender when available.
  4. Enter their Birthdate.
  1. Select the Campus.
  2. Enter their Marital Status (if known).
  3. Enter their Address (After selecting  country).

Click Add Person on the left side of the screen to add additional family members.

  1. Select Adult for a spouse.
  2. Select Child for family members of the household.
  3. Select Visitor for guests or relatives not normally in the household.
  4. Enter the Grade for any Child added (grades begin with Kindergarten).

Click Add Person to add additional family members.

Click Next after all family members have been added.

On the next page, you can add communication values such as Phone and Email.

  1. Enter Phone numbers and Email addresses.
  2. Click Next when complete.

Note: As of January 2020, do not add a key tag number. Key tag numbers are added automatically when the family checks in to serve or checks their kids in to attend LifeKids.

3. Enter a Key Tag number to the family.

RMS currently calls the Key Tag # an Alternate ID.  This will be changed to Key Tag in the future.

Note: Key Tag numbers can only be added to one Adult. We suggest adding the key tag to the head of household, as it will allow any family member to check-in at any ministry.

The exception is a Switch student, who can have their own key tag number.

RMS automatically adds a random key tag number and these will work.

  1. Click Finish to save the household.
