This article will show you what steps to do in order to operate effectively the Yamaha CL-1 console in Learning Center if need be.
Digital consoles can be daunting but thankfully our Tech Team has setup this one so we can operate it in a very straight forward way.
1. Turn it on
Press the On/Off button located in the back right side of the console (if you're looking the rear end of the console).
Wait until this following screen comes on and tap on "Close".
Once the pop-up is gone, click one of the green knobs on the left side of the screen as it if were the home button of your phone. You'll see a screen with a lot of things. This is what we call the "Selected Channel Screen" Don't worry about everything on it.
If there's something to notice from this screen is the label on the top right side of it. It shows you the number of the channel all those controls are for and the name of it.
In this case is a red/orange label, is the Channel Nº 17 and the name of the Channel is ZOOM.
Before moving anything, make sure that you can read "Scene 299" LC TEAMS + ZOOM in the bottom right side of the screen. The "Scene" is a profile/preset that is saved in the 299 position with a certain configuration made for the Learning Center.
2. Operation
From all of these faders, knobs and buttons, there are not a lot that we have to worry about. Thank the Lord. We're going to focus on (From left to right):
Input Volume Faders (Bank A - Red)
Input Page Selector (Green)
Output Volume Faders (Bank B - Blue)
Input/Output Selector (Blue button)
Input/Output page Selector (Orange)
Master Volume Fader (Master Fader Bank - Purple)
2.1. Input Channels (Bank A - Red)
From these channels you are going to control the volume of the "inputs" a.k.a. the audio coming from the mics, Zoom, Teams, Headset, Mac Mini, etc.
To modify something's volume, simply tap the button that says ON once to light it up located on top of the volume fader (that means that channel is ON) and push the metallic fader up until the desired level. -20db to -10db is a good starting point.
Anything that has the button ON with an orange light behind at the top of the fader, it means that channel is ON.
When raising the volume of anything, push the fader up slowly while listening closely to the volume coming out of the speakers in order to avoid any undesired noise.
2.2 Input Page Selector (Green)
The buttons labeled 1-8, 9-16, 17-24, etc. with a green light behind them will cycle through the different pages of available channels. For example, if you select the button that's labeled 1-8 you will see the name of all the microphones. If you click the button labeled 17-24 you'll see names in the tiny screens change to ZOOM, TEAMS, etc.
2.3 Output Volume Faders (Blue Faders)
Just as the Input Faders, the Output Faders are going to manage volume, but instead of the things coming in, they will manage what we are sending out of the console. Good news! We're only going to use the ones called VID OUT.
If you move these faders up or down, it will modify the volume of everything. Think about it as a grouped volume for all the Inputs.
2.4 Input/Output Selector (Blue Button)
This button helps you select what you see in the faders in the middle. The blue ones. If you select Input you will see the same that the ones in the left. So we like to keep it on Output.
2.5 Input/Output page Selector (Orange)
This button works in the same way that the Input Page Selector. Clicking on the different buttons will cycle through either Input Pages or Output Pages. Depending what you have the top button on. We like to keep this one on the page that says 17-24 since that one has the Outputs that we use.
2.6 Master Volume Fader (Master Fader Bank - Purple)
Moving the MONO fader up or down will modify the overall volume of the console. -10 to -15 is a good starting point.
