Ross Switcher - Multiviewer TV

Updated on

This article will define exactly what you are looking at on the 'switcher tv.' This article is helpful to communicate what you are looking at.

The 'switcher TV' is professionally called a "Multiviewer Output" of the switcher or simply "multiviewer", as we will refer to it in this article.

The Multiviewer allows you to view all incoming sources and most outputs as a way to verify what's being sent from the switcher. Each input and output has a label, as well as a colored outline indicating what item selected.

The inputs we use at Life.Church are:

  • Resi

  • ProPresenter

  • ProTools

  • Hyperdeck

  • Desk Input

  • Baptism Camera or Stage Display

  • Black/Program.

The outputs shown on the multiviewer include Preview and Program Outputs, as well as the Scenic Projection Output.

The multiviewer should be used to verify video signal and as a confidence monitor for the stage display that the band is sees on the stage display TV.

Vocabulary:

We talk about the Multiviewer - Left to Right, Top to Bottom.

  • Preview (Top Left) - shows the source that is ready to be transitioned to the side screens.
  • Program - shows the 'live' source that is showing on the 'side screen' layer.
  • Resi (Middle Left) - shows the main output of our Resi cloud-based DVR - one primary source of message playback.
  • Pro Pres - This shows the main output of the ProPresenter software.
  • Pro Tools - This shows the output of ProTools, the worship lyric videos.
  • Hyperdeck - A video playback device that is utilized for message distribution on the weekends.
  • Sat - We use physical Satellite as a backup source. We also sneak in an internet stream into this source as well. No matter which is being used, we call it Sat.
  • Cam/STG Disp - This window usually shows the Stage Display output from ProPresenter, but once a quarter during Baptism weekend, it will show the Baptism Camera.
  • Desk Input - To plug in a laptop or DVD player for a special event, the desk input is the open HDMI input into the video system. This is not normally used on the weekend, and instead shows a blank magenta screen when not in use.
  • Black/Program - Sometimes we transition to a black screen. We may also choose to send the Program output of our side screen layer to another projector layer. Selecting "Shift" and "Program" on the center screen layer ties the center screen to the sides.
