Turn On Smart Sync

Smart Sync is a feature in Dropbox that allows you to access Dropbox files without taking up storage on your hard drive. It also ensures that your files are backed up to Dropbox.

The steps below will walk through turning on Smart Sync in Dropbox for macOS and Windows 10.

Are you using macOS or Windows 10?

1. Open the desktop app of Dropbox, if it's not open.

2. Click on the Dropbox icon in the menu bar.

3. Open Preferences in Dropbox.

4. Select the "Sync" tab.

5. Turn on the feature of "Save hard drive space automatically".

If you have "Let my admin manage this setting" on, then Smart Sync will be turned on by default.

Congrats! You've turned on Smart Sync!

1. Open the Dropbox app, if it's not open.

2. Click on the Dropbox icon in the task bar.

3. Open Preferences in Dropbox.

4. Navigate to the "Sync" tab.

5. Make sure "Save hard drive space automatically" is set to 'On'.

If "Let my admin manage this setting" is on, then Smart Sync should automatically be turned on.

6. Click "Apply", then "OK".
