Reading Decibel Level Charts on Tableau

Updated on

This article will briefly explain the layout of the "Auditorium Decibel Levels" tableau board.

Overview:

1. First, select the desired campus code on the right hand side. For example, we have selected OPK.

2. Select the date from which you would like to view the measurements.

3. Next, select the weighting log that you would like to view. In most cases, we look at the dBA SPL Slow Weighting.

For more information on weighting logs, please refer to our Smaart Overview article's section on different weighting and target levels.

4. Once the campus code, date, and weighting log have been selected, a visual will populate on the screen, showing decibel level from the selected date.

An occasional red line is not a bad thing. However, if measurements are consistently reading over the 100 dBA threshold (creating a red line), we start by checking the microphone's calibration and go from there.

5. To view details on a reading, hover the mouse over the specific reading. An info box will pop up with details including the date and decibel reading.

FAQs:

What if my campus does not show any readings or is not in the list at all?

  • Please put in a ticket by emailing [email protected]. We will take a look at why this has happened and do our best to retrieve the data.

Can I export this data?

  • Yes, this can be done by clicking the "Download" button found in the top right of the visual.
  • As of now, download options include JPG, PDF, or Powerpoint.

Can I view multiple dates at one time?

  • Viewing multiple dates is helpful to easily compare readings from two different dates. By selecting both dates in the "Select Date" dropdown menu, both selected dates will populate in the visual.
