How to get your Mac to default to printing in black and white.
1. From web browser click File- Print
1.1. If you see the screen below- click Show Details
First you will want to save the current default preset name as Color- this way you have a color option if something needs to be printed in color.
2. Setting Color Option: Click on Presets drop down menu and select Save Current Settings as Preset
2.1.
3. Rename as Color. Select All Printers. Click OK
4. *Important Note:
For this preset to save you will need to print a test page in color. Otherwise the "color" option will print in black and white after the next steps are followed.
5. Setting black and white as default: Click on the drop down menu located under Orientation.
6. Select Color
Important Note: If you are not seeing the options below Cover Page, you may not have the drivers for the printer installed on your computer. Contact the Help Desk for further assistance.
7. Under Color Mode: select Black and White
7.1.
7.2. Click 'Save Settings' padlock icon
8. Click on Presets drop down menu
9. Select on Save Current Settings as Preset
10. Name this preset (ex: B&W) and select All Printers
11. Click on Presets dropdown menu again and select Show Presets
12. Make sure the box at the bottom of the screen next to Rest Presets Menu is NOT checked.
13. Click OK and then you can cancel out of the Print Menu and you are finished
Important Note: You will have to manually select the black and white preset you created the first time you print. After this (as long as the Reset Presets box is not checked) it will default to black and white moving forward.
